GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Kyle Clough thought his Rockford basketball team was playing too passive.
The Rams were down by 10 points against Northview, which is uncharacteristic for a Rockford team.
“We challenged both of the Bascom boys at halftime,” Clough said of Jake and Josh Bascom. “We felt like they were shying away from the contact. In the second half, there was a lot more shoulder-to-chest finishes. In the second half, they were unstoppable. And that was the key to the game.”
Rockford rallied to beat Northview 48-45 at the 2K26 Showcase at Grand Rapids Community College on Saturday, Jan. 31.
Josh Bascom, a sophomore forward, had 12 of his 14 points in the second half was named the game’s MVP. His brother Jake Bascom, a senior forward, also had 14 points, 10 in the second half.
“It’s really fun,” sophomore Eli Wolfe said. “When we got down by 10 points, we knew what it would take to get back in it.”

Rockford, the No. 4 team in Division 1, improves to 13-2. No. 10 Northview falls to 13-3.
Northview was controling the game in the first half. Brayden Williams, a junior guard, scored 13 points in the half and would finish with 20. Cam Ryans finished with 18 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and three blocked shots.
“Cam is unbelievable,” Clough said. “He puts so much pressure on a defense. I think we did as good of a job as we could do on him.”
The GRCC arena was packed for the game. It was so popular that it took over an hour for cars to get out of the parking garage across the street after the game.
