GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Here are five West Michigan players who stood out to me at the Brawl for the Ball travel-ball tournament in Grand Rapids from July 18-20.

MILO BARANGAN - MONA SHORES

I admit, I hadn’t seen much of Barangan before. But the Muskegon Mona Shores senior is really impressive. I saw him score 20 points in the championship game to help the Grand Rapids Storm 17U National team finish 5-0. The lanky 6-foot-5 forward averaged an impressive 21 points per game over the weekend. He’ll be playing for T.J. Meerman this season at Mona Shores.

MAKAI CAMPOS - WEST OTTAWA

The West Ottawa junior can pretty much do it all on the basketball court. He’s the main point guard for the West Michigan Premier 16U 3SGB team, which went 7-0 last week to win the championship. He had a game-high 23 points in one game on Friday and another 23 points in a game on Saturday. In the seven games, Campos drained 17 3-pointers for a 41-percent clip and averaged 14.8 points.

HARPER HUNTINGTON - GRAND HAVEN

Might be the most impressive local player that I saw this weekend.
The 6-foot-2 junior guard from Grand Haven is part of a dynamic duo with Max Zichterman for the West Michigan Premier 16U 3SGB team. They are both left-handed guards who are elite shooters. Huntington had a game-high 22 points on four 3-pointers in the championship game to help WMP win the title. He also 17 and 19 points in two other games. He drained 22 3-pointers this weekend and averaged 14.5 points. He’s getting bouncy this summer, too. He had a dunk in a game on Friday.

ANTHONY RICHARDSON - GRANDVILLE

I’ve seen the lanky Grandville senior play before during the regular season. But he looked like a different person while playing for West Michigan Premier 17U 3SGB last weekend.

He’s a 6-foot-6 forward who is really smooth. In the two games I saw him play, he had 27 points and 21 points. He was draining 3-pointers like crazy. Four in one game and five in another.

ELIJAH WARSEN - WAYLAND

I don’t know what the Wayland junior did the entire tournament, but the one game I saw him play, he was the best player on the court. In one stretch with West Michigan Lakers NY2LA 16U, he drained a 3-pointer, blocked a shot, drained another 3-pointer, stole the ball back and had a layup. So eight points in a matter of one minute. In that game, he had three 3-pointers and 11 points.
