Forest Hills Eastern names new boys basketball coach

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Zac Clark is excited about his first head coaching job. But he also knows he’s got a challenge ahead of him.

Clark was named boys varsity basketball coach at Grand Rapids Forest Hills Eastern High School last week.

“Man, I’m super excited,” Clark said. “For it to be Forest Hills Eastern is awesome; it’s a pretty awesome community. They’ve been really welcoming.”

He replaces Matt McCorkle, who was only at FH Eastern for one year.

The Hawks were 2-21 last season.

“I’m excited about it,” Clark said. “It’s an opportunity for me to get in there and bring a positive atmosphere.”

Clark graduated from Britton Deerfield High School before going to Concordia University, where he played basketball for four years. He was the Concordia JV coach for one year.

Clark was an assistant coach at Forest Hills Central the past two seasons under Jordan George.

“Everything was really new to me,” he said of moving to the Grand Rapids area. “I didn’t know any schools here. I’d never heard of Forest Hills Central. But I’ve learned a lot from Jordan. I loved my time over there.”

Clark, 24, is a physical education teacher at Grand River Prep High School.
