ALLENDALE, Mich. - Who is the kid in the No. 34 jersey?
When the Northview High School basketball team took to the floor on Saturday, there was an unfamiliar face on the roster during the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan team camp at Grand Valley State.
Brayden Williams, one of the top young players in West Michigan, transferred last week to Northview from Wyoming High School.
“It was just the right move,” Williams said. “I left because my brother (Warren graduated) and the whole senior class (graduated). So there was no point for me to stay at Wyoming. I saw an opportunity at Northview. I went there for a better opportunity and stay there for the rest of my career.”
Williams, an incoming junior, averaged 15 points per game last season at Wyoming. He’s the No. 8 ranked player in the West Michigan Ballers rankings for the 2027 class.
“Yeah, I moved,” he said. “I officially enrolled last week. My first time playing with Northview was last week.”

New teammate Cam Ryans loves having Williams on the team.
“He’s a talented player,” Ryans said. “He can shoot it; he’s real skilled. He’s got a great handle (as a ball handler). Here, he’s gonna open up his game a lot more. He’ll get a lot more open shots. He can show his game to a lot of college scouts. He probably didn’t have as much exposure at Wyoming. So I think this is a good move for him.”
Williams was on varsity as a freshman at Wyoming, but he blew out his knee midway through the year. He’s still wearing a bulky brace on the knee.
“My knee is pretty good,” Williams said. “I played the whole year without any injuries or concerns. I’m feeling great now. I’m pretty sure I’ll be taking the brace off soon. I only had to wear it for eight months.”
His game has grown a lot in the past year and so has his height. Williams has grown almost three inches.
“I’ve definitely grown,” said Williams, who weighs 178 pounds. “Last year I was like 5-11 or 6-foot. But now I’m like 6-2.”
