ALMA, Mich. - Jake Bascom didn’t know know 1,000 career points was an option a week ago.
Turns out the Rockford High School senior needed three playoff games to reach the milestone.
“I didn’t even realize until playoffs - or right before - and figured I had to be getting close,” Bascom said.
The 6-foot-6 forward scored 26 points in a 66-45 win over Saginaw United in a Division 1 regional semifinal on Tuesday, March 3. He needed 15 points to reach 1,000.
“I knew he’d have a shot if we could get through the district,” Rockford coach Kyle Clough said. “Two incredible performances back to back obviously allowed it to happen quicker. Very happy for him. Prestigious company in Rockford basketball history!”
Bascom, who has committed to play at Central Michigan University, is averaging 18 points per game.
“It feels great,” Bascom said. “Proud of myself on how far I’ve come since freshman year, and grateful to have great teammates who’ve helped me do it.”
Bascom has been on varsity since sophomore year. Does he recall his first varsity points?
“My first bucket was our first game against FHN my sophomore year,” he said of a win over Forest Hills Northern on Dec. 2, 2023.
