What are the odds of two friends scoring their 1,000th point on the same night?

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Titus Spencer was talking trash with his buddy Will Orme on Friday night via text message.
Spencer, a senior at Holland Christian High School, had gotten home after scoring his 1,000 career point and he wanted to share the news with Orme, a senior at Grandville Calvin Christian High School.
Orme said “wait, I scored 1,000 too!”
What are the odds of two friends scoring their 1,000th career points on the same night. And they both cut it close since they needed to do it in the district title game.
“We were just texting each other,” Spencer said. “That’s crazy. We played AAU together three years ago. We’ve been friends ever since. The odds of doing that on the same night is astronomical.”
“But I did it in just two years!” Spencer said.
True. Orme needed three years to reach the milestone.

“I was so happy for the both of us,” Orme said. “It’s such a cool thing to share on the same day. We’re pretty close. I’m glad we got to share it.”
The two met three years ago when they were teammates on the West Michigan Lakers travel team.
“I’ve known Titus since my freshman year of high school,” Orme said. “We played on the Lakers. I was new to that team. I didn’t know anyone. Titus was my first buddy. We clicked off the court, too. He’s can really play basketball.”
Orme needed five points to reach 1,000. He did it on Friday night when Calvin Christian beat Wyoming Potter’s House Christian 53-39 to win a Division 3 district title.
Spencer needed 29 points and he scored 30 as Holland Christian beat South Haven 64-55.
“My parents had signs they were holding up in the stands with like 1,000 on on ‘em,” he said of Luke and Pong Spencer. “I didn’t want them to bring those signs for nothing.”
Spencer is averaging 20 points per game but has not committed to play for a college yet. Orme is averaging 17 points per game. He also is undecided, but it likely won’t be basketball he plays. He likely will play golf in college.
Does Orme remember his first career points?
“It was against Potter’s House, actually,” said Orme, the son of Kyle and Liz Orme. “I played two quarters on JV and scored 26 points. On varsity, I got in the game I hit a 3-pointer.”
